The Slide Effect hits Angewandte Cover!

Our paper "Light-Driven Transport of a Liquid Marble with and against Surface Flows" has just been selected to be illustrated as the inside back cover of Angewandte Chemie.

In this paper, floating liquid marbles are optically transported on a photosensitive surfactant-laden solution by light-induced Marangoni flows. They show a remarkable upstream motion at a low substrate thickness due to surface deformation. We demonstrate that this anti-Marangoni motion is driven by the flow-induced deformation of the liquid surface, which gravity-propels the marble against the surface flow, in a way similar to a child descending a slide. We thus call this new behaviour the “slide effect”.
